Earlier today, President Trump announced his decision to rollback the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which currently protects nearly 800,000 “Dreamers” who were brought to the United States as children from deportation. ERA Executive Director Noreen Farrell said of the decision:
“I am sickened by the president’s callous disregard for the promise made to 800,000 young people across the country. It is imperative that Congress act before March to ensure that Dreamers are treated as vital members of our communities, not as criminals. This decision increases the urgency to pass California’s Senate Bill 54 – the California Values Act – and uphold our communities’ values of inclusion and equality. We refuse to take part in mass deportations and any policy that stokes hatred and division.”
California’s SB 54 will protect the safety and well-being of all Californians by ensuring that state and local resources are not used to fuel mass deportations. Tell your Assemblymember to vote “yes” on SB 54.
